Event Details

5th July | 7.30pm – 9.30pm | Venue 7 | Lillington Gardens Hall

Join SouthWestFest for a special showing of the award winning Tales from Tin Pan Alley music documentary, at our very own pop-up cinema at Lillington and Longmore Gardens Hall and Bar. After the film there will be a short Q&A with the film makers.

“Rich in humour, anecdotes and a history stretching from the pre-war opium dens” Dave Hill, On London, online.

“A nuclear shelter, an IRA bomb, Britain’s biggest mass murder and the beating heart of UK Music: all in one street, all in one documentary” Chris Choi, ITN News.

London’s Tin Pan Alley is brought to life by the very real tales of 30 people who worked behind, above, below and inside the shops of Denmark Street. Tin Pan Alley was always so much more than the hub of the UK’s music publishing fraternity, now long gone. It was also home to agents, songwriters, venues, studios, rehearsal rooms and music instrument shops, until redevelopment swept most of it away in 2016-17, leaving only the music shops. Now the Disneyfication of Denmark Street is all but upon us with a brand new Mall called the Outernet shortlisted for The Guardian’s ‘Carbuncle Cup’, which is situated to its partially demolished rear end.

With contributions by Dan Cruickshank, Paul French, Joshua Levine, Will Self, Dame Vera Lynn, Skiffler Chas McDevitt, The Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones, David Bowie’s bassist Herbie Flowers and Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, all people who worked there, Tales From Tin Pan Alley has already been named ‘Best Documentary Film’ at 12 Film Festivals Internationally.

Tickets are £6.00 and include popcorn for the film. Refreshments will be available at extra cost
from the bar | Tickets available at www.southwestfest.org.uk/tickets | Remaining tickets will be sold on the door unless the event sells out.
